Melvin Handy

Melvin joined the Shared Imaging family three and a half years ago as a Transportation Specialist supporting a California health care facility by delivering mobile MRI’s and CT’s.  He came to us with several years of mobile medical industry experience and was able to hit the ground running, making a positive impact.

Melvin has been a devoted employee that always puts patient care first, and will make personal sacrifices so that Shared Imaging can provide care to our customers.

Melvin had several unplanned layovers over the last 12 months in his region which meant sleeping in his truck, unable to make it home. He has consistently shown this level of dedication and work ethic since being employed by Shared Imaging.

Melvin also has innovative ideas! Last year, he suggested Shared Imaging have a Safety Week, an idea that was implemented. Melvin is an active and engaged member of Shared Imaging’s Transportation Safety Committee.

One recent example of Melvin’s dedication and how he creates a WOW for our internal and external Customers:

On January 13th, Melvin was transporting a unit to a site when he received a system alert, indicating an emergency that required immediate maintenance. Driving through a severe storm and having stayed overnight previously, Melvin diverted the unit to a Shared Imaging yard for service. Due to the distance and storm, he had to stay overnight in his truck into the weekend. With staff being short-handed and no one available to deliver the unit after repair, Melvin volunteered to wait for the repair to be completed, then delivered the unit on an unplanned weekend.

When a unit is down, it impacts our customers, reputation, patients, and associates’ work schedule. Melvin’s actions not only saved Shared Imaging from a cancellation fee but, more importantly, ensured patient care the following business day.

Melvin and the other transportation drivers may not interact with customers directly, but their impact on our business is immeasurable!!!
